Challenges are what makes us better in terms of experience. Overcoming them has not been so easy in anyone’s life ever. They make us feel nervous, fearful, anxious the more we ignore them the worse it gets.

No one is left unknown to the challenges of life, yet some people make opportunities out of challenges and some end up being in big troubles seeing challenges as dead ends.

When big challenges Knock our doors many a times we are not ready to deal with them. Staying calm is one of the best things you can do to be sane. Loosing conscious thinking in those moments can make things worse.

I have been through some decisions in life which I was not ready to accept. Here are 9 ways I used personally to make efficient choices that made things smooth in the journey of life.

9 Practical Ways to Overcome Challenges

1. Look at the Past achievements

We are all aware of the common notion of learning from the past mistakes yet no one reflects on the past victories to gather self belief. Challenges were with us since the day we were born its not alien thing to us.

Its just the degree of those challenges get higher as we get older and faced with making decisions on a daily basis. As we know there was a time when walking was a challenge for us. Yet we overcame that pretty nicely.

Accomplishment

We should always gather courage from our past victories to move ahead in the heaps of unknown treasures. Even if they sometimes make us feel fearful of the consequences.

2. Talk to someone you trust

Our minds are reflective systems. They work best when have we insights about things. We take better decisions when we have multiple perspectives in our minds about a single thing.

To look at things in a fresh perspective. We need conversations which are unbiased & from a different lens. As things are changing and due to past experiences with people we have developed a habit to trust on a few.

Men and women sitting and talking

We call them our whole world. When times are tough we should always reach out to the people we can talk to openly and be vulnerable. These people can give us a new perspective and can show us a totally different view of our situation.

This makes finding solution to any problem easier and accessible. One of the best things you can do is having mentors to look upto. Mentors can ease things out as they have lived the phase of life and have an unbiased take on things.

3. Don’t suppress your feelings

Showing our emotional side is often seen as weak which is the worst conditioning the society has hard wired us with. From early age we learn to hide our feeling which in the elder years of life become a disaster.

Man hiding his feelings

It turns out that these are the sole reasons why mental health issues increase in adulthood and even teenage. We try to ignore the truth which overtime becomes a negative energy within.

The biggest impact is on our intuition which overtime do not help us as we are not keeping up with our promises. lying may help in the short term yet it hampers our self esteem over a period of time.

4. Write it down

fountain pen on spiral book

As there is a common saying which goes like – if you write a problem, you have already solved it 50%. Writing is the most essential practice when it comes to clarity of thoughts and articulation of ideas.

We many a times find ourselves in stressful situations. We also feeling like sharing with others yet it does not help. Writing is a way out to express your true emotions. Unloading your thought bubble which is keeping you trapped.

It is essential to write once, so you can reflect and attain clarity in your perspective. It will help you detach yourself from the situation and look closely of whatever you are facing as a challenge.

5. Think Long term

Think

We often procrastinate on making decisions fearing consequences. Most of the decisions of a person are socially driven which is a factor that makes us anxious when taking risk or facing challenges.

Long term thinking help us get clarity. It provide us a practical view of things. It help us overcome the emotional impulsive behaviour which may times fool us into making bad decisions.

The bigger your plans are, the more comfortable your emotional state will become.

6. Evaluate your self talk

Man talking to himself

We talk most of the time with ourselves. Something become a trap or a Mental disease just because we give that thought more energy. You should always sit with yourself daily to check what are things you were whispering about unconsciously.

It shapes our belief in the long run. We are conditioned to avoid pain and move towards gain. Self talk can make or break a person. So always be skeptical of what you talk to yourself.

Just using self talk and visualisation techniques. You can program you mind for totally new potential and capabilities. One practice you can follow is to visualise and sit for 30 minutes in silence before bed.

7. Believe in yourself

Something worthy is what I have known and followed since last decade is you have to believe yourself more when no one does. Validating things from inside is a super power which very few people posses.

Believe

keeping up with your belief in challenging times can be tiring at the start but if you do it is highly rewarding. You can take a look at the life stories of people you admire & you will find everywhere someone has trusted in his/her vision more than others.

This single trait has made more success in the history than anything else. Challenges are what differentiate extra ordinary from the ordinary. Making things hard before they become easier is the nature of things. Always have faith in yourself because life give us surprises when we expect them the least.

8. Keep Looking for Solutions

Solve a puzzle

The brain has all the power to attract anything we want it to achieve. When we are always in the hunt of solution to the problems we develop neural networks which promotes creativity. I have personally done it & have solved some exciting mysteries of my personality.

It requires grit to make it happen on your own terms. Being patient at times where nothing is in your favour will give you the paths you need to follow for overcoming those challenges. the longer you stay in the process the brighter and prosperous you will be.

9. Always challenge yourself

woman in black shirt and blue denim jeans sitting on black exercise equipment

Small wins everyday can make your self esteem high eventually making your mind to believe in your abilities. The challenge can be as small as completing whatever you decided to in a day or even keeping the promises you make to yourself or anyone else.

You are always more capable than what you think of you are. If you avoid challenges in life, you can end up in a negative and hopeless spiral of thoughts, so keep pushing your limits to make the best out of the one life you have been offered by the divine.

What is over conscious behaviour ?

The state of self consciousness is when you are so much concerned about the outcome of the event. You often fear negative consequences. These thoughts come to you cause of your past experiences. Consciousness is a flow state. On the other hand, self consciousness is a stressful state, which in turn hampers your focus, productivity and performance in general.

Signs you are over conscious

When you are self conscious. You sweat often when doing a task. You feel anxious, you get frustrated easily, you seek validation from outside world, you avoid situations and things which are not familiar to you.

How to build confidence ?

The question comes to our mind when someone says build your confidence. Yet how should you do that, no one tells you anything specific to act on. The simplest way to build your confidence is to your promises. Match your words and action. No other thing will be required to gain confidence in your life.

What causes over consciousness ?

As a child we seek validation of what is right and wrong from our environment. We do exactly whatever our closed once’s do. If we do something and we are appreciated then we start believing in our thoughts, which then builds up confidence. Yet if we are punished for something and abounded then we lose confidence in our self and start pleasing people to be accepted. Any of the two experiences can highly impact our self esteem. This all can be changed no matter what was our past.

What to do now ?

  • Practice positive self talk
  • Do whatever makes you feel good about yourself
  • Harness your interests
  • Educate yourself to know yourself
  • Keep your promises no matter whatever happens.

Challenge of the week

Do exercise 5 times a week and notice how your confidence and energy changes.

Book of the week

Read – ego is the enemy by Ryan Holiday

It will educate on the forms of ego and how it disconnects you from the reality.

Reflection of the week

When you feel lost then create systems of what you know to bounce back.

I have seen myself saying that I am not interested in things which don’t see valuable enough to deploy my time. I also chose to leave the things which are out of my comfort zone.

Let me share a recent story. We all have some kind of lifestyle. Some people wake up early where others wake up late, some choose to prioritise social life over Personal Life. Many people value productivity more than fun. So there are different beliefs for different people.

I used to one of the person till my collage days. Who used to value personal growth and not usually socialise around with people. Whenever someone asked that let’s go out have fun. My obvious statement was – I am not interested, you go enjoy, I have some work to do for now. I will join you next time.

Then as they left for such parties, occasion or any kind of the event. I was the only left with nothing to do and then eventually waited for my friend’s to return. So we can talk and I also would dig into how was the event. Who all were there for the event.

This was a common thing for me to avoid social occasions. Which on a longer time frame was a good and a bad decision. In a good way, it helped me know myself better, I got more time to understand my weakness, strengths and who I was as a person.

I stretched the idea of personal life so far that it started hurting me. I had no such connections, I was a lone wolf who just did everything by himself. No that much of a big and charming social life. So then I decided to start connecting to people and stop being always focused on the personal space and everything around it.

The day I started reaching out to people with whatever that was on my mind and listening to their stories. It was a life changing experience for me. It gave me many new people to hang around who believed in my ideas, had same aspirations and dreams just like me. I started enjoying this thing even more than my personal endeavours.

I realised that it was not that I was not interested in hanging out and connecting with people yet I was fearing social rejection. I was not so confident. I was always looking that why should I reach out others they should come to me. This was a bad idea I had for a long time. The day I decided to change my mindset. Everything changed for ever.

Now I am more confident, connected, happy, positive and productive.
So a few lessons I learned from these incidences.

  1. Never let your fears over power your choices of what’s interesting and what’s not interesting for you.
  2. Things will change the day you decided to take the step in the direction.
  3. Don’t fall into the trap of commitment and consistency. Just go for the things you want to. Never allow yourself into thinking that what others will react when I choose opposite what I used to say them.
  4. There is no static or one personality type for a person, you can live whichever way you want to and whenever you want. So change it now. If you don’t love the way you live now.
  5. When fears trap your mindset, use the no regret framework – always do it, try it, cause regret way much worse then anything else.

Questions of the week

  1. What makes a thing interesting according to you ?
  2. What is hard – to chase your dreams or to Seattle for your insecurities ?

Challenges of the week

  1. Reach out to one new person every day for the next 15 days.
  2. Commit to any one thing for at least 21days . which you were about to do yet not started cause of any reason.

Book I am reading this week

The sketchbook of wisdom by vishal Khandelwal – it offers timeless principles on wealth, relationships, happiness, health, investing and personal Development in the form of short stories.

For a human mind, pain of loosing something is twice in comparison of pleasure of receiving something. Most often as an inexperienced person in any of the domain of life whether it is financial, social, spiritual we fear about the consequences of things that are uncertain.

It is true that fear is a good indicator for our capabilities, knowledge, awareness etc. yet it should be given more value as an experienced individual in anything we do.

Fearing lose, while attempting something new, is a very restrictive approach towards anything you want to grow yourself into.

Most youngsters in their 20s want everything very fast yet they do not want fail at anything that do for the first time. They believe that their are sunk costs associated with whatever they pursue. Which keeps them away from a lot of exposure.

If I talk about my past, I used to be one of these kind of guy when I was 18, I feared somewhat socialising, my perception was like if someone finds out that I am not good enough then it will be very embarrassing. So I mostly kept myself into books and sort of things that would allow me to be on own my own most of the time.

Until, I figured out that, no one cares what happens to your life. So why worry about loosing something which I don’t own at all.

There is always more to gain in life, whatever you choose to do, it will be rather in terms of experience, wealth or relationships.

So, go explore what you want and be yourself as Steve job said – Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.

You may have heard somewhere, self doubt is not good for your growth, it sabotages you, it hamper your growth, it is a road block to one’s success.

Yes, most of the people are true in what they have said about self doubt these many years, even some of my own blog posts. Says it is true.

Yet, it really depends on how far you take that notion into consideration and how long you push your overthinking trap and stay in the loop of self doubt.

It is a tendency of our brains to avoid things which are uncertain, fearful, provides no social proof, because our brains prioritise survival over growth. Our ancestors used this fears of self doubt to protect themselves from the animals.

This is an evolutionary trait which is still in the human psyche, which we can not easily get rid of, yet we can leverage it to some levels and help us in guiding towards greater growth and wisdom.

The perspective you choose will help you leverage the self doubt that is within the human brains. Here are some conclusions you can make to get most out of your self doubt to grow as a better person.

Self doubt can make you aware regarding your preparations for something.
Self doubt can help you know that you have not done enough work in whichever area of life you are doubting yourself.
• Self doubt can be a good indicator that you have not taken action on something in the past.
• If you doubt more often than a normal person, then it is a indicator of low self esteem and low self confidence.
• Self doubt is also experienced by people pleaser’s

If repetitive self doubt is there, you may be stuck in your life not growing by experiences but only by age.

These all points can help you know more about yourself, which can eventually help you grow.

Two years back, I was one of a person who used to procrastinate things time and again for no reason. I also used to do things for very short period of time, without even committing for at least a week to something I started.

This was taking a toll on me, I started to doubt my self now and then what will I do. If this continues, one major reason for such a thought cause. I used to consume a lot of self content, which bought me into thinking am I being true to myself or I am faking it all and wasting my time.

I came across one YouTube Video of the greatest internet marketers of all time, Seth Godin, the man who writes a blog daily no matter what you will see him posting blogs for the last 10 years.

It’s a long time, I was amazed how someone can do something for so many year. In the video he talked about being professional, Seth said, The person who shows up everyday with his work or anything, regardless he is tired, bored, stressed, feeling low, no matter what happens, he is their to deliver the value as promised that is true professionalism.

So, if you commit to anything it could be writing, podcasting, exercising, waking up early.

Just do it everyday, no matter what is going on in your life, just show up everyday, try it for 30 days and see how much impact it will create in your life.

As, we know the information economy is very fast, dynamic and always changing. So many of us have experienced this that we meet someone in previous month and they were doing something different or now entirely new thing.

So why is this happening because people are consuming a lot of content and due to internet it is so easy to learn something in a new discipline very fast.

Here comes a question, what we can do to stay ahead, relevant and effective for the future.

  1. Develop the ability to learn fast and execute even faster.
  2. Do not fear failure instead fail faster to gain insights, experiences and grow your intellect for better success
  3. Practice multidisciplinary thinking, which means know fundamentals of many disciplines such as physics, psychology, medicine etc. it will help you solve problems better and have many perspectives on a single thing.
  4. Create systems for what works and what not works for you in every domain of life, whatever it is health, wealth or social etc.
  5. Practice longterm thinking. It will help you focus better and help fighting distractions.

Fear is the road block, hit it hard and chase your goals. Happy learning…
